Conférence Slavery - Orange Week

What an amazing Conference Slavery: Past and Present we had yesterday on the Neumunster Abbey 🇱🇺, on the International Day of the Abolition of Slavery, 2nd December!

Organised by the “The Insight Project”, Marta Correia referred some astonishing facts about the modern slavery: “Today there are around 50 millions people around the world victims of human trafficking and slavery, which 22 millions are forced marriages (mainly victims women and children), and we can expect an exponential increase especially emerged from situations like the pandemic we lived and the Ukraine war. In the days of slavery, slaves were branded with iron. Today, they are branded with tattoos”.

Slavery has not been abolished, no! Modern Slavery assumes many other forms around the world today: forced marriages, children forced into prostitution, rape in exchange for services, refugee trafficking, etc.

Different testimonies from the interactive panel of speakers recounted atrocious episodes around the globe.

Picking up on the words of the “Insight Project “, if we speak up for people who have no voice, for the rights of all people who do have a voice, if we speak up for justice and stand up for the poor and indigent, we can actively save lives, change our community, transform the world.

How can we stop slavery against Women? Let’s spread and create awareness and unite to abolish slavery once and for all!
